The University makes it clear it wants to be a supportive employer and to provide staff with support, guidance and online resources to make sure their physical, mental and social wellbeing needs are met throughout their career at the university.
Most staff will not experience problems where they need the support of the employer, but recent cases taken up by UNISON suggest that when they do they can feel isolated and unsupported, almost as though they have to battle with the institution whilst they try to address their issues.
UNISON Retired Members’ Conference 2016 will be held at the Southport Convention Centre from 12.00 noon on Tuesday 4 October to 4pm Wednesday 5 October 2016.

UCU has announced that members working in higher education have voted in favour of strike action in UK universities in a row over pay.
Almost two thirds (65.4%) of members who voted backed strike action and over three quarters (77.3%) voted for action short of a strike.
Employers also offer further joint work on gender pay and casualisation
University employers have made a final offer of 1.1% increase on all points from 1 August 2016, with additional payments at the lower end of the pay spine.
This offer includes the deletion of point 1 to be implemented by 1 April 2017, and an increase of 3.1% on point 2 with tapered higher increases through to 1.6% on point 7 from 1 August 2016 (see table below).
