RECRUIT A COLLEAGUE AND BUILD THE UNION

UNISON is a growing, campaigning organisation for support staff working in your university. Recruit a colleague to UNISON and you will go into a prize draw to win a weekend for up to two adults and two children at UNISON’s own Croyde Bay holiday resort in north Devon or an iPad.

Simply have a chat with people in your workplace about all the things UNISON has achieved and our plans for the next 12 months. Then ask them to join UNISON and make us even stronger in your university. Help them fill out the recruit a colleague form that can be obtained from your Branch, add your details in the recruiter section and send it to UNISON Office, Room 7518, Stoddart Building, Howard St, City Campus for your chance to go into the national prize draw.

If your colleague prefers to join online at https://join.unison.org.uk that’s not a problem. All you need to do is email their membership number, name, address and phone number to unisonadministrator@shu.ac.uk  and include your membership number, phone number and address.

ARE YOU WORTH IT?

After the recent pay campaign UNISON will be organising a group photo of SHU members to spell out the message “we’re worth it”.  Please come along to show your support to Hallam Square (Main Entrance to City Campus) at 1pm on Thursday 26th June.

We will also be running a recruit a friend offer at the stall at the 26th June event

  • bringing along a potential new member to the recruitment stall
  • If the new member joins UNISON at the stall SHU UNISON will reward both of you by reimbursing the cost of an NUS extra card*
  • the stall will be on Campus on Thursday 26th June, 12-2pm outside the main entrance at Owen Building City Campus
  • new members will need to be signed up as a UNISON member for one month before the reward can be reimbursed
  • ensure you leave your details with the UNISON rep on the stall to claim the reward

(* please note we will cover the cost of the one year option for the card which is £12).

 

SIGN UP A NEW MEMBER

The week commencing 12th May is UNISON recruitment week.  So please encourage your colleagues to join UNISON.

SHU UNISON Branch is promoting UNISON by having recruitment stalls at both sites with information on the importance and benefits of being in a union.

Members can play a big part in this by:

  • bringing along a potential new member to one of the recruitment stalls.
  • if the new member signs up to join UNISON at a stall SHU UNISON will reward you by reimbursing the cost of an NUS extra card* for both the existing member and the new member.
  • Stalls will be on Campus on Tuesday 13th May between 12-2pm at the Café in the Robert Winston Building Collegiate Campus and in the main entrance at Owen Building City Campus.

WORRIED ABOUT PAYING YOUR WINTER FUEL BILL?

With rising fuel costs and another cold winter many members are worried

about how they’re going to pay this year’s winter fuel bills.

 Help is on hand

“There for You” has set up a limited fund to help UNISON members on

low income by way of a one-off payment of up to £40.

or simply contact your UNISON branch office. Everyone that applies

will receive a booklet giving information about other help that may be

available and how to reduce your fuel costs in the future.

UNISON MEMBERSHIP OFFER

Despite quite a few of our members having left SHU over the past few years  we have managed to maintain membership levels through recruitment campaigns. So please could you pass this latest offer on to anyone you think maybe interested in joining.  We need to continue to have a strong membership to remain to have an influence within the University.

NUS card refund if you join UNISON

Join UNISON at SHU and we will cover the cost of NUS extra card*. With this card you get hundreds of discounts including 10% off most things at the Co-op and discounts at many clothing and restaurant chains. To qualify you need to be new to UNISON or not to have been a member for a least one year. UNISON represents admin and technical staff at the University and campaigns on pay and conditions. *On joining UNISON we will refund the equivalent cost of the card for 1 year. The NUS Extra card is available to all SHU staff. The offer to new members stands whilst this card remains available to SHU staff or until 31 March 2014, whichever comes first.”
