The purpose behind Workers’ Memorial Day has always been to “remember the dead: fight for the living” and unions are asked to focus on both areas, by considering events or memorial to remember all those killed through work but at the same time ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated. That can best be done by building trade union organisation, and campaigning for stricter enforcement with higher penalties for breaches of health & safety laws.

CELEBRATING RESILIENCE

An exhibition organised by PCS National Gallery strikers

One year on from the last exhibition and after 111 days of strike action PCS National Gallery strikers have organised a new exhibition with the theme RESILIENCE.

The exhibition, at PCS HQ Clapham, will feature work by PCS members responding to the strike, as well as pieces by campaign supporters, plus art works, banners and posters made during the strike.

 UNISON SHU Branch, along with the national union and branches across the country will be attending this event and invite members to join us on the day. The branch has agreed to pay for members to travel on the coach.

Coach transport:  If you would like to attend the demonstration and require transport please email Lucinda Wakefield who is co-ordinating this for our branch. 

The coaches will leave The Hubs, Paternoster Row on Sunday 4th October at 9:00am.

As part of the take your lunch break campaign we are organising a picnic lunch on Wednesday 8th July between 12.30 – 1.30. Bring your lunch to the Peace Gardens (Winter Gardens if the weather is inclement) and join with your colleagues to take a break from your desk. We will be having a guest speaker from UNISON, a raffle and some give-aways. Bring along any colleagues who are not currently members of UNISON but would like to join – you will both receive the cost of the NUS extra card (£12) when they sign up.
